Jay Leno Accepts Plaque from the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation
Gainesville, Fla. April 18, 2012 - Jay Leno accepted a plaque from the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation at his NBC studio in Burbank, CA for his generous auction of a tractor to benefit the Fisher House at the Scottsdale, AZ Barret-Jackson Auction in January.
Alicia Fabiani, a representative from the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation, presented Jay Leno with the plaque after filming the Tonight Show on March 13.
"He is really a wonderful person and it was an honor to present him this plaque, thanking him for his support of our military, veterans and their families," Fabiani said after meeting with Leno.
Fabiani presented him with a plaque with engraved photos of some of Gainesville's local heroes who have stayed in the Fisher House. The plaque was in recognition for his auction of "Lil Tug," of which $235,000 will be used in the construction of the North Florida/South Georgia Fisher House.
We would like to applaud Jay Leno for his generous donation to benefit our active military, veterans and their families. Celebrate this and all that the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation is thankful for at our Annual Night in Margarita'ville on Sunday, June 10. Teacher Inspires Local School to Run for Fisher House
Returning from overseas, a Williston, FL teacher inspires local school to run for the Fisher House – GAINESVILLE, FL
By Vanessa Tritsarolis, Public Relations Intern
Suzanne Hardy, a physical education teacher at Williston Central Christian Academy in Williston, FL, organized a "Run for the Son" to benefit the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation.
Her family was stationed in Germany, two hours away from the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, when her husband, Technical Sargent Louis Roger Hardy, was diagnosed with colon cancer and had to have surgery. What started as a two-day stay quickly turned into ten days, but the Landstuhl Fisher House was there to support her family.
"We had an amazing experience with the Fisher House in terms of being able to not worry about finances and really focus on our family," Suzanne said.
Suzanne explained that the house was kid friendly, an important factor for their two daughters staying with them while their dad was receiving care. It was helpful to her family that they were around people going through the same thing.
Suzanne was touched by the compassionate families staying in the house and explained that, "most every night there was someone from the community that left dinner for us. One family lost their son and that very night they were in the kitchen serving people dinner."
When Suzanne and her girls returned to the states, her husband was up for retirement and arranged to meet them back home over the holidays. Still on active duty, he was able to seek a civilian hospital that accepted Tricare, which led him to Shands Healthcare near the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.
Suzanne was back home when she heard about the Gainesville Fisher House Veterans Day 5K event on the radio and became aware that there was a foundation in Gainesville trying to construct a house.
"We were challenged as teachers to come up with a way for students to learn about giving and not just receiving during the holiday season and the Fisher House is very dear to my heart."
Suzanne's "Run for the Son" quickly turned into a school-wide challenge and now students from kindergarten to sixth grade run laps each Friday as part of the new "Mileage Club" that Hardy established.
Suzanne and her students presented the Executive Director of the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation, Patricia Fabiani, with a check for $631.50. Her school has currently racked up about 34 miles total.
Her husband will transfer to the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in March, the current construction location for the Gainesville Fisher House.

GAINESVILLE, FL - Gainesville Fisher House Foundation Executive Director Patti Fabiani and Special Forces 1st Lt. Brian Donarski invite the media to meet and interview Wounded Warriors at the Golf Clinic at Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club on Saturday June 9.
Donarski will be participating in the golf tournament for a second time. A member of the 2005 All-Army Golf Team and a scratch golfer, Donarski is hosting a Golf Clinic for the Wounded Warriors to assist veterans in brushing up before the Third Annual Charity Golf Classic and Night in Margarita'ville, on June 10, benefiting the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation.
The Golf Clinic begins with lunch at 12 p.m. and interviews can go on throughout the day during 9 holes of golf.
The 501(c)(3) foundation is dedicated to serving veterans, military members and their families in North Florida and South Georgia.
"The Golf Clinic is a great opportunity for the media to develop a personal connection with Wounded Warriors, veterans and active military that have been directly affected by the Fisher House program. They will get to see what the Fisher House is all about AND hear a firsthand account of the breathtaking lives that these veterans have lived" Fabiani said.
Donarski, a Purple Heart recipient, returned to military service after the September 11th bombing when he suffered serious injuries from a roadside bomb during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Throughout his service over the years, Donarski has stayed at Fisher Houses with his family.
The Gainesville Fisher House Foundation invites you to meet Donarski and other heroes that have made great sacrifices for our nation's freedom. The proceeds for our all-day event will go toward constructing a much-needed Fisher House adjacent to the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center.
In conjunction with our Charity Golf Classic, at Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club, the Foundation is also hosting Night in Margarita'ville, an experience that brings the islands and Las Vegas all in one place! There will be casino games, local food with island flare and live music performances from 5-9 p.m.
Please contact Patti Fabiani at [email protected] for more information.
